As you can see from the photos I have 2 digital gauges. They both were checked with each other and a machinists square and 45'. Both are pretty darn accurate , But this is easier to read and doesn't keep changing as much which gives an easier, quicker read out.
I should've bought this sooner! I do have Steelex precision square as well as other tools including Mitsutoyo digital caliper but I was still off by 0.2° for the table saw. It makes the process simpler and the magnet that's embedded on the unit (which is pretty strong by the way) allowed me to calibrate different surfaces. And it does indeed work really well. Storing is easy and of course being so small and using one AAA battery (using rechargeables as always) doesn't involve buying less commonly used battery. So many uses I'm finding just going around measuring things and realizing how anal you can get because it's off by half a degree. Obviously it won't always replace a long level or depending on the application but having this, traditional level as a laser level I think you're set as far as getting things nice and square every time. For woodworking tools this is a must have!
5 stars is defined as LOVING the product, and I do. I have been involved with the building of more than a dozen ADA-compliant wheelchair ramps, and I use this digital angle gauge all the time. It's AWESOME. You do have to calibrate it, which is simple to do. You should always check the angle, then flip the gauge around 180º and see what it reads. If one reading is 4.7º and the other is -4.7º (negative), then you know it's calibrated accurately. If they differ significantly, then you need to lay it on a known level surface and zero it out. Then test again. One challenge is that wood is never totally straight and you'll get different readings almost every place you measure. That's not the fault of the gauge. It shows how accurate the gauge is! I absolutely love this thing. Anyone who needs to measure angles should own one of these. For thirty bucks, it's an amazing product.
The digital angle gauge with magnetic base works well for checking the angle on my table saw blade. Now I can be quite accurate with my mitered cuts and ensure that I've returned exactly to 90 degrees when I am done. I have found the blade angle stops built into my Dewalt portable table saw are decent, but they don't always return to exactly 90 / 45 degrees. All bets are off if I've had to adjust my blade alignment. This tool makes it easy and quick to confirm I'm in the right spot. Should have bought this on day one when I bought the saw!
All in all, I will say that this little unit is very useful and well worth the money. As you can tell by the five stars, I highly recommend it.
